National Day of Writing:
Join us as we celebrate the power of writing with schools across the Nation. This year’s prompt is:How do we use writing to make connections? Join the conversation on Twitter on Monday by posting your thoughts at #write2connect. Find more details posted in the cafeteria and on the Writing Center bulletin board. Be sure to post your tweets (limited to 140 characters) here as well! Please provide your name in the comment too (not included in the 140 characters) -- so that I know who you are :) This contest also asks students to write a letter! However, rather than writing a letter to an author, your audience this time is a local politician, and the subject matter is childhood hunger. Please view details for the contest by following the link below.

So this would be the one to do first if you are interested. This contest is run by the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress and it is a great opportunity to select a piece of fiction or non-fiction that has influenced you in many ways. In order to participate please see the following pdf which contains information about how to write and submit your "Letter to the Author."
Click here for contest guidelines, rules, and submission information. The due dat for this contest is: December 10, 2013 Just because you have never thought of yourself as a writer, doesn't mean you are not one! If an idea hits you -- write it down! You may be amazed at what comes out.

The Writer's GuildThe Writer's Guild is a blog dedicated to the writing, sharing, reading, and discussion of writing.
Whose writing you say? Why yours of course! Over the course of each school year there will be contest information, writing prompts, discussion forums, poetry slam announcements and more posted to this page. So ... if you are interested in writing, not sure about writing, just getting into writing, or are just an avid reader, this site is meant for you! Be sure to check back regularly for updates and announcements! Note in closing: this is meant to be a place to share insights, ideas, prose and poetry, and as such it should never include non-constructive criticism, taunts, jeers, or slander.
